Swiss ATC Switch Transition Completed January, 1998 - Palomar Products, Inc. (PPI) has completed the transition of the Zurich Air Traffic Control Center Switch. Over the two day period of January 10 and 11, 1998, Team Leader Art Webb, Alberto Lio, Jason Rhubotom, and Dan Halabuk from PPI, along with a team of swisscontrol operations, engineering and management personnel, completed the cutover of Area Control Center (AAC), Tower and Approach Control circuitry and a substantial number of trunk lines from the old Zurich Switch In order to meet the Swiss demand for their SWI-02 Switch, PPI provided a Digital Switching System with Enhanced Reliability (DSS-EHR) with 54 color Communications Control Panels (CCPs) and four Voice Switching System Managers (VSSMs). Our Switch allowed the Zurich Air Traffic Control Center to participate, for the first time, in the MFC/R2 Protocols which enabled them to implement a wide variety of EUROCONTROL standard recommendations. While congratulating the PPI staff for such a smooth, seamless, transparent transition, Peter Kunzli, swisscontrol's Head of the Project Group said, "I am very pleased to tell you that all of the feedback I received was overwhelmingly positive. Besides the very professional image that spread out from your team, our controllers were also impressed by the fact that some changes they had requested during the first day of operation were already implemented the next day. I would like to congratulate you and your team to this full success." Fred Ekstein, PPI's Vice President of ATC and Military Programs, recognizing our contributions to this Program stated, "The Swiss Switch Program demonstrated the flexibility and full redundancy of our switch products. We had the right product to meet the customer's requirements, and we look forward to continued business in this area. Congratulations to the entire Swiss and PPI Team!" Contact: |
